Beverley Festival offers a “Vision of British Urban Nightlife”
As Beverley Festival celebrates 30 years and moves to its new venue at Beverley Racecourse, Lucky Eric and the rest of the ‘ Bouncers ’ will be arriving at the event in June to give festival goers an insight into the real British Urban Nightlife!
With the festival having as a patron one of this country’s leading playwrights, John Godber , who has been credited as being the third most performed playwright in the UK behind William Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn, it seems fitting that for its anniversary year it brings drama into its programme. And what better than a bit of light hearted theatre in the cabaret version of Godber's ‘Bouncers’ where all human life can be seen.
Spend a night with Baz and the lads, Plain Elaine and , if you are Lucky , Sexy Suzy, along with a host of other characters, as we follow them on their Friday night out, from the hairdressers to the drunken taxi ride home, all under the watchful eyes of the four men in black.
Performed by a top-notch cast of Adrian Hood, Dave MacCreedy, Zach Lee, and Frazer Hamill, directed by Gareth Tudor-Price, 'Bouncers' promises to be an excellent addition to a programme which already has the cream of artists from music (The Proclaimers, Oysterband and Show of Hands), to the written word (Ian Rankin) , comedy (John Shuttleworth) and now drama.
Artistic Director Chris Wade said “ we are all thrilled that this high quality cast has agreed to come and perform at the festival, and that John Godber has given it his blessing. It will add an extra dimension to the weekend, which we feel will help to bring new audiences to the event and provide a new strand of entertainment. The festival feels as if it has reached maturity now with a top quality product which will appeal to a huge audience of all ages ”.
It will be an evening not to be missed, and with a limited capacity early booking is advised.
