After an absence of 11 months, Vixen 87, the Market Weighton based community radio station serving the western side of East Yorkshire is set to return to the airwaves on 87.9FM at 7am on Sunday 11th November until Saturday 8th December 2007.

For the first time in the station’s 4 year history, Vixen 87 will be broadcasting live from the Market Weighton Royal British Legion Remembrance Day Parade, in respect of local war veterans who are unable to make it to the event in person.

Two other outside broadcasts are in preparation. On Saturday 1st December, live programming will come from the Pocklington Arts Centre Victorian Fair, and Monday 3rd December sees the team out in the cold winter air at Market Weighton’s annual Christmas lights switch on and late night shopping event.

The station decided to take a break from its traditional May/June broadcast this year to concentrate its efforts on preparing an application to OFCOM for a Community Radio licence. A new company, Vixen Broadcasting Ltd. has been set up for the purpose, and the new company is seeking larger premises in anticipation of the outcome of the application.

The application procedure was a complex matter, and became a 187 page document by the time of completion. If the bid is successful, it would allow the station to broadcast on a much more regular basis than the two 28-day periods per year that its current licences allow.

However, there would be a set-up period of around a year from award of licence to raise funds for, and the installation of a more robust transmission system, training of new recruits, and setting up of a whole new infrastructure to meet tight OFCOM requirements.

In the meantime, Vixen 87 would like to invite any non-profit making organisation to forward details of their activities for inclusion on the What’s On Guide, this November and December. It is a free service broadcast 8 times per day.
