Beverley Folk Festival 2008

Although the headliner artists are yet to be revealed, the weekend will also include the new rising stars on the English folk scene Rachel Unthank and The Winterset . Musician Roy Bailey & the ever charismatic Tony Benn will perform ‘The Writing on the Wall’ , a thrilling history of political dissent from the 14th Century to the present day. A festival screening of John Shuttleworth’s film ‘It’s Nice Up North’ will be accompanied with a Q&A session by the poet & musical impresario himself. The festival will also include a first ever Saturday night performance in St. Mary’s Church.

This year tickets for children (up to 11 yrs of age) will be FREE OF CHARGE to encourage families to take advantage of the non-stop entertainment and events. The festival village in the grounds of Beverley Leisure Complex will buzz throughout the weekend with children’s and youth activities, food and trade stalls, and the return of the Teenage Cancer Trust music tent and late night Beverley Arts Trust festival tent. The village will be more environmentally conscious this year including improved recycling facilities, workshops to promote sustainable living and trading stalls promoting fair-trade and local & regional produce.

The festival would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the residents of Beverley (with a HU17 postcode) who have supported the festival throughout the years and is offering a fantastic seasonal discounted rate of £60 (adult) / £40 (concession) per weekend ticket to the first 20 people to call the Festival Office at 01377 217569 and book with us.

Even if you miss this offer, you will be able to purchase a weekend ticket at last year’s Early Bird prices of £69 (Adult) / £45 (Concession). Please note: this offer applies to Beverley residents only and is available until Friday 11th January 2008.

Eager Beaver tickets for any other purchasers will also remain on sale until March 31st at £75 (adult) / £55 (conc).

Anyone wanting to find out more about the festival plans and offers can subscribe to a free email Newsletter by contacting the office via the website or emailing info@beverleyfestival.com.

The festival is thrilled to have received £10,000 in funding from the Langeled Rural Community Development Fund towards a Musical Heritage Collaboration Project which will bring together school children in East Riding villages to conduct workshops and performances at Beverley Festival and a partner Norwegian Festival. The project will be championed by an acclaimed local musician Sam Pirt and a leading Norwegian musician.

The festival is delighted to have once again as a partner, Wold Top Brewery, which will be brewing a special festival beer, which will be available at the Festival Bar for all discerning tasters to enjoy.

For those wanting to have an even great involvement in the festival, the organisers are looking for new voluntary directors to join their dynamic team who are working hard to move the festival forwards into the next 25 years. In addition it is seeking volunteers who would like to help out in the build up to and during the festival weekend.
