It’s back….bigger and better… East Yorkshire’s answer to Glastonbury
Tribfest Website
An exciting 3-day festival of music featuring some of the country’s top tribute bands is back for its 2nd appearance in East Yorkshire.
The Glastonbury-style event, which attracted around 3,000 people last year, is expected at least to double following its massive success.
It’s being held again at the Driffield Showground, Kellythorpe near Driffield on 15th to 17th August.
But music lovers can get a taste of what’s to come at the Tribfest Taster being staged at Hull City Hall on Saturday 17th May 2008.
It will feature four top tribute bands – The Antarctic Monkeys, a tribute to the Arctic Monkeys who already have national acclaim, The Fillers, a tribute to The Killers who have made a massive impact on the UK tribute scene, and two of the top Tribfest ‘07 bands who played last year’s festival, Achtung Baby, a tribute to U2 and our very own Hull-based band topping the bill, Badness, a tribute to Madness/Ska.
To get festival-goers in the mood for Tribfest 08, people who attend Tribfest Taster are being urged to go in their wellies!
The gig, which starts at 7pm, will provide four and a half hours of quality music aimed at families.
“The Tribfest Taster was very successful last year. Over 1,000 people attended, but we have gone one better this year and added another band,” said Eddy Faulkner, of Tribfest and Tribfest Taster organiser Ed Entertainments.
“We are aiming this night at all ages especially families, as we have a special price of £50 for a family of four. We’ve got a good mix of bands to suit all ages.
“It’s like a mini indoor festival so we would like everyone to turn up in their festival wellies!!!!”
Anyone buying a Tribfest Taster ticket can get 15% off their Tribfest 08 Festival ticket if they keep their Taster ticket stub and redeem it at the Hull City booking office.
Tickets for the Taster are priced at;
£20 Adults
£10 Children 5-16 years
£15 Concessions
£50 2 Adults 2 Children
They are available on 01482 226655 or at Bridlington or Beverley Tourist Office.
Both this summer’s Tribfest and the Tribfest Taster are being organized by Eddy Faulkner, of Ed Entertainments Ltd, who is also the front man of the highly-acclaimed tribute band, The Beautiful Couch, tribute to the Beautiful South & Housemartins
“The idea for Tribfest came after seeing the reaction The Beautiful Couch and other tribute bands receive at gigs around the country,” said Eddy. “The Couch has played twice at the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool, which attracts around 400,000 people over the weekend; it has a full day dedicated to the UK’s top tribute bands.
“If Liverpool can do it then why can’t we? We are trying to create our very own tribute band event which I feel over the next few years will become nationally recognized. I think East Yorkshire has suffered as far as music festivals are concerned, but feel we have now filled the gap.
“We’re using last year’s festival as our inspiration - making it bigger and better this year. We have added another day - with music starting Friday 15th August at 6pm instead of at noon on Saturday, which increases the number of bands from 18 to 22 over the weekend.
“Lots of other entertainment will be on offer. This year we have acquired the services of Music Exchange who run local events in Hull who will be gathering some of the top local acts to perform at the festival.
“Because of the family element we are increasing the entertainment for children, stalls, food and drink, and lots of other onsite activities. It should be a fantastic, fun weekend, which will pull more people into the East Yorkshire area.”
The weekend camping event will be staged at Driffield Showground, Driffield, on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th August 2008.
The new line up of 22 bands will be released mid April 2008.
Eddy is searching for more sponsors for Tribfest, as well as stall holders, caterers and other firms that might want to get involved.
“We got the backing of local businesses last year including, Viking FM, Bonus Electrical, East Riding Council, Stratstone Mini as well as several smaller companies who sponsored the bands which was fantastic with it being a new event,” said Eddy.
“Kingston Communications have also agreed to get involved in Tribfest ‘08 and all businesses who supported us last year are getting on board this year again which is a testament to the success of the event. Driffield Showground was absolutely top class for an event of this nature, with great facilities.”
Ed Entertainments are putting together some Sponsor/VIPs Packages for companies and individuals alike which will be available in the coming weeks.
Anyone interested in sponsoring Tribfest ‘08 in the summer, we would like to invite them to the Tribfest Taster at the Hull City Hall to see the quality of the bands on offer and chat about what we can offer companies within the Festival Weekend. |
