It might be almost a year away, but plans for the 35th Beverley Folk Festival are already underway, with a limited number of Early Bird discounted tickets currently available.

Priced at £80, these full weekend tickets give you access to everything the festival has to offer – for an additional fee you can also book your camping months in advance.

Festival Programmer Kelly Foley said: “The Early Bird weekend ticket offer is a fantastic deal. Not only do you save up to £40 off the final price, but buying now is helping to throw your support behind the festival as we reach our landmark 35th year! To date, we already have some fantastic, award-winning artists booked to perform next year – The Lucy Ward Band, Calan and Greg Russell & Ciaran Algar.”

Looking forward to their first time at Beverley, Calan are an award-winning Welsh band whose music is fresh, vibrant and has a pounding beat set against the backdrop of old traditions. They have helped to introduce a new generation to the music of Wales, including songs about the fairy realm of the valleys and tales of magic, myth and mischief.

Named ‘Brit-folks most forthright new young talent’ by MOJO and ‘inspiring’ by Billy Bragg, it is clear why Lucy Ward is a singer songwriter in demand. Her music never fails to get to the heart of the human condition and she is the youngest person ever to be nominated for the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year.

Double BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar have been performing together since 2011, swiftly becoming one of the most sought after young acts on the English Folk Scene. They released their third album, ‘The Silent Majority’, to critical acclaim in March 2016 – festival organisers know audiences will look forward to watching them perform tracks from the album.

“Lucy, Greg and Ciaran have all performed at Beverley Folk Festival before and are returning due to popular demand”. Kelly Foley explained: “We always listen to our audiences and try to give them what they want. We’ve had requests to invite these three excellent performers back and we are happy to tell festival goers that this is something we’ve been able to do.”

All these celebrated young artists illustrate the way folk music is being embraced by a new generation of musicians and music lovers, ensuring it has a positive future ahead of it.

Nikki Airey (21) has been coming to the festival for several years. A gifted musician in her own right, she manages the festival’s Westwood Sessions, which work with and encourage young musicians aged 12 to 23. She said: “Beverley has a fantastic reputation for supporting young artists and that is now reflected in our audiences. In 2016 we had many more young festival-goers than ever before and as the festival approaches its 35th anniversary, it will be the perfect opportunity to not just celebrate the tradition of folk music, but also embrace its future.”

With more artists to be announced over the coming months, everything is shaping up to be a 35th anniversary party to remember!
